An experienced, empathetic counsellor who listens carefully to what you have to say and offers the perspective and help that only a third party can bring. I do not just nod!
About me and my practice
I hope you find here what you need to make an informed choice about whether to approach me. The first step is often the hardest and I do not underestimate its difficulty.
Experience
'There must be more to life than this.' If this statement resonates with you, counselling may be the answer. Space to reflect, to imagine, even to dream, in the company of a skilled listener may be just what you need. Pain, crisis and failure are signposts that something needs to change. If we can accept them, we can be free to move on from them. As a trained therapist I can help you find your direction again, realise the choices you have and act on them.
As an experienced Psychosynthesis counsellor who also uses CBT tools and techniques I can help you with:
Existential issues: where do I find meaning, purpose and value in life?
Loss of identity: redundancy, retirement or an empty nest can leave us devastated.
Low self-esteem: with work, we can choose to accept and celebrate who we are rather than deprecate ourselves for who we are not.
Bereavement: navigating the hurt carefully and avoiding the traps will lead us to a new appreciation of life, with thanksgiving for the person or role we have lost.
Anger: learning how to express this cleanly leads us to be assertive rather than aggressive or submissive. Self respect follows!
Depression: a deadness of the soul. The expression of feelings, rather than their suppression, leads to a better understanding of who we are and gives us the chance to make authentic choices about how we want to live our life. We can become a friend to ourself.
LGBT +: who am I? How do I lead a life where I can be myself in the face of a sometimes hostile society?

I was an Anglican priest for 34 years working in university, community and hospital settings. I particularly accompanied those at the end of life, though I enjoyed seeing those starting off too!
6 years ago I became a Catholic and now also offer spiritual direction in the Ignatian tradition.
Approaching 70, I am still learning and relish my life and work. I hope I can be of service to you.
